Lace Shorts

As this summer has been pretty limited in terms of the weather, I haven't had much chance to actually wear these shorts that I made back in July. Believe it or not this was actually my first time making a pair of shorts so I'm pretty damn pleased with them! I can safely wear them out of the house without the worry of seams coming undone etc. and there are only a couple of faults that I can see. At the time I'd been obsessing over pairs with lace trimmings so I added some of this to my own. As the fabric is quite colourful, I decided to just pair it here with a plain white t-shirt and a simple necklace and sandals

Los Angeles

Our fifth and final stop was Los Angeles. We did the usual touristy things, such as visiting the Hollywood walk of fame, the chinese theatre, Madame Tussauds and saw the famous Hollywood sign, plus managed to fit in some sunbathing by the pool.
I actually bought this skirt from H&M while in New York. I'd been after a white skirt for a while so I couldn't resist buying this. I'm wearing it with my fishnet top, and a necklace I  bought from Primark.

Maui

After Kauai, we travelled to Maui (another one of the Hawaiian islands). Maui is actually the second largest after Big Island. Again, we spent our first day and a half in the hotel (+ we did a bit of snorkelling). Our second day was a very long day since we drove along the Hana Highway which was a 2 hour drive on the coast of Maui and along the edge of the rainforest. Our destination was the Pipiwai Trail which took you past several pools and through a bamboo forest to the Waimoku Falls. On the way back we also stopped off at the Waianapanapa black sand beach.

This is quite a long post since I managed to take photos for both the day and night. The first outfit is a pretty typical beachy outfit. I found this top in the charity shop (originally from Topshop) and thought it would be great for days lying by the pool and to just throw on. My shorts are really old and diy'd. I'd really love a classic pair of high waisted denim shorts rather than these horrible ones but I just can't justify spending the money on something I'll only wear a few weeks a year!
My evening outfit features a dress that I made last month. The top section is made of a mesh material and I just pleated the blue fabric so that it hangs in quite a unique way.

Kauai

After Oahu, we flew to Kauai (which was probably my favourite of the three islands). We spent the first day in the hotel and on the second we drove to the Waimea Canyon. I'd never been to/seen a canyon before so I was really quite impressed, especially since it's the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific'. We'd planned to visit the Na Pali Coast but due to some technical sat nav issues we had to turn back but found a really nice snorkelling beach instead.
My dress was a charity shop find. It's not something I would wear normally at home but it was perfect for the beach/evenings/plane journeys plus it was very easy to just throw on. It was quite windy by the sea here which is why I'm looking very windswept in these photos!

Oahu

I hope results day wasn't too bad for everyone! I'm fairly pleased with mine but there's not so much pressure to get the right grades since I've already got my place at UCA. Two of my friends managed to get into Cambridge and I can't imagine the stress they must have had during exam time!
Anyway, onto part 2, and our next stop was the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Oahu is the third biggest island and is the location of the capital city, Honolulu. Our hotel was slightly east of this, next to Waikiki Beach which is where we spent our first day relaxing (and attempting to bodysurf...). On the second day, we drove out to the Koko Head trail (shown in the photos below) which was an incredibly tough hike up a disused railway track and then drove around the coast where we found a really nice surfing beach.
As for the outfit, this dress is something that I made just before I left for holiday. It's possibly my favourite thing I've ever made as the fabric is just perfect and I'm really pleased with how well it fits/the quality of sewing. Let me know what you think...!
